Introduction
Everything done in Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is
ONE. Certain questions have been raised as regards certain
procedures and practices in various stations in the fold.
There is only One Leader and Teacher in the Brotherhood of
the Cross and Star. He is the Holy Spirit, the Triune .God,
personified in Leader Olumba Olumba Obu. The Sole
Spiritual Head. Whatever is done in the Brotherhood fold in
all planes of creation should be as we see Him do or as He
directs or teaches. We must not imagine things or do
anything of our own volition or introduce doctrines or
procedures and practices that are not in accordance with His
divine instructions and directives.
To ensure uniformity and remove doubts from the minds of
brethren, the Holy Spirit directed that a comprehensive
Handbook be written for the guidance and adherence of
brethren in the fold. This document is a compilation of the
direct instructions and directives of the Holy Father and as
such the official book of procedures and guidelines for the
Brotherhood world. This handbook is Supreme over all
others.
Thank You Father.

BROTHERHOOD OF THE CROSS AND STAR
CERTIFICATE OF INCORPORATION:
Brotherhood of the Cross and Star was registered as a corporate
body with the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the 25th day of
March 1964.

DESCRIPTIONS:
Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is a Christian organization.
Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is neither a political party, a
secret society nor anything of this world. It is the New
Kingdom of God, instituted and governed by God Himself.
Brothers and Sisters should live in oneness. “Brother” or
“Sister” is our real name. (Matthew 23:8)
“But be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your Master even Christ
and all ye are brethren.”

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
(1) To advance Christian religion by spreading the gospel of
our Lord Jesus Christ to all parts of the world. (John
20:21).
“Then said Jesus to them again, peace be unto you as my
Father hath sent me even so send I you.”
(2) To carry-out Practical Christianity. Healing the sick,
helping the poor, and relieving the distressed and to
follow the footprints of our Lord Jesus Christ not only by
preaching the gospel but by practicing same.
(3) To establish Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities
as the need arises and shall be conducted in accordance
with the relevant Education policies of the Government
concerned.
(4) To love one another -Matthew 22:37-40
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God
with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy

mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the
second is like unto it, Thou, shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and
the prophets.”
(5) To carry out economic empowerment for the benefit of all
brehren

MOTTO
LOVE: Love ye one another even as Christ loves you
FAITH: Have faith in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
HOPE: Hope in God perpetually (1st Corinthians
13:13)
“And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three but the
greatest of these is charity (love).”
HEAD OFTHE ORGANIZATION:
LEADER OULMBA OLUMBA OBU is the Leader and the
SOLE SPIRITUAL HEAD of Brotherhood of the Cross and
Star.

BROTHERHOOD UNIFORM:
The official uniform of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is
white garment with a cape known officially as the sutane in
conformity with what is recorded in Revelation of John the
Divine.
.
“And one of the elders answered’ saying unto me, what are
these which are arrayed in white robbes? And whence came
they?’
.
And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me These
are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed
their robes? And made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
.
Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day
and night in his temple and he that sitteth on the throne shall
dwell among them. (Rev. 7:13-17).
(Rev. 19:8)”And to her was granted that she should be arrayed
in fine linen, clean and white for the fine linen is the
righteousness of saints.
Brothers and Sisters use the same uniform, apart from the fact
that sisters use white headties.

WEARING OF SHOES:
It is the doctrine of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star not to
wear shoes into the Bethel or the house of worship, knowing
too well that we are in the presence of God.
‘Then said the Lord to him, put off thy shoes from thy feet for the
place where thou standest is Holy ground.” (Acts 7:33)
God is holy and all worshippers of God must worship Him in
spirit and in truth.

LEVIES:
There is no imposition of levies in Brotherhood. Everything is
done out of free will
Every one should give freely as much as he or she is given the
ability. No one is to be forced. Do not make any vow when you
have no intention to redeem it.

TITHES:
Everybody must pay 1/10 of his/her earning as tithes to God.
Bethels, Associations, and Fellowships must pay tithe from
proceeds realized from functions. Tithe payment is a secret
between you and your God. Malachi 3:7-12.
Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from time
ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will
return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. But ye said, wherein
shall we return?

Will a man rob God? Yet ye ha ve robbed me. But ye say wherein
have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings
Ye are cursed with a curse for ye have robbed me, even this
whole nation.
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse that there may be
meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord
of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour
you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not
destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your wine cast
her fruit before the time on the field, saith the Lord of hosts.
And all nations shall call you blessed for ye shall be a delights
ome land, saith the Lord of hosts.

CONTROL OF TITHE BOX:
(a) Bethel:
The Bethel Leader’s Representative, the witnesses/CNTM
in the Bethel, General Fellowship Chairman and the
Secretary should jointly take charge of the tithe box.
Records of the proceeds and evidence of payment should
be properly kept in the bethel.
On no account should the tithe box be opened without the presence of at least three of the members earlier mentioned.

SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTES:
Members of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star are not
expected to resort to litigation as a means of seeking redress for
wrong done to them. Disputes are to be settled among brethren.
However, if an agreement cannot be reached the matters should
be taken to the Peace Board as a final resort.
(a) First, according to the divine instruction in Matthew 18:15-
16

“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell
him his fault between thee, and him alone, if he shall hear thee,
thou hast gained thy brother.
But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more,
that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be
established.”
(b) If (a) fails, the various arbitration procedures as
established by each fellowships should be followed.
(c) If (b) fails, the case is brought before the Executive of the
General Fellowship
(d) When all these fails the matter should go to the Peace
Committee set up at the Zone, Area, State etc. before going
finally to the Peace Board at the World Headquarters.
Brotherhood is a spiritual kingdom where love, peace and
joy reign
“Now the Lord is that spirit and where the spirit of the Lord is,
there is liberty.” (2nd Cor. 3:17)
Under no circumstance should Brotherhood members take
their disputes to outside the fold.

BETHEL LEADER’S REPRESENTATIVE:
(a) These officers, a brother and a sister are always nominated
by members of the bethel for ratification by the Holy
Father through voting by the brethren in a general meeting
of the bethel.
.
(b) They are to keep the Zonal Leader’s representative fully
informed on the activities within their bethels.
.
(c) They should endeavour to attend all meetings , functions,
morning and evening prayers so as to keep abreast with all
activities within their bethels. They are answerable to the
Zonal Leader’s Representative.

AREA LEADER’S REPRESENTATIVE:
The officer is elected by members of the area and ratified by the
State L/R. His duties is to co-ordinate the activities of the
Bethels within his area through the Zonal L/R’s. He reports to
and answerable to the State Leader’s Representative.

STATE LEADER’S REPRESENTATIVE:
This officer is appointed by the Holy Father. He receives
reports from Area Leader’s Representatives and co-ordinates
the activities of areas within the State. He convenes regular
meetings of the State for effective and smooth running of Areas
and fellowship within his supervision.

MOTHER:
As the name implies, a mother is expected to behave as a
mother to all members. She is expected to adopt a motherly
approach in all matters. Including the preparation and
distribution of feasts, taking care of the welfare of visitors to
Bethels. She is to carry out her functions through the full
support of C.N.T.M, Bethel/Area or State authorities as the
case may be.

C.N.T.M/ CHRIST WITNESSES
These are trained, missionaries and posted by the Holy Father
to take charge of the bethels. When the Father designates
anybody a C.N.T.M. He gives him/her a letter signed stating
his/her duties.
Anybody who claims to be a C.N.T.M without a letter of
authority from the Holy Father should not be accepted in any
Bethel.

PREACHING FROM THE PULPIT:
No conductor should at anytime raise his/her hands in the
pulpits during singing of introits or silent prayers like the Holy
Father does. In Brotherhood, there is no man or woman,
therefore all are authorized by the HOLY SPIRIT to preach.

Knowing that the Holy Spirit does everything.
Gal. 5:18 “But if ye be led of the spirit, ye are not Under the
law” 1st Thess. 5:19 ‘Quench not the Spirit.”

GOING ON BLESSING:
We go on blessing orderly with everybody as in procession
in step with both hands clasped together, finger-to-finger, as
is done while praying.
Blessing should be done pew by pew and with total humility.
One has to concentrate and focus his/her whole mind on the
blessing he/she is receiving while on procession.

THE LEADER’S NAME:
No one should use the holy Father’s name in writing to the
Government , Company, Corporation, Societies, or Individuals
for your business transactions. Also, when going on your
business trips do not hide under the soutane or use Brotherhood
name under the pretence of going on missionary work.

PENTECOSTAL PERIODS:
Pentecostal periods serve as periods of revision of lessons
taught, during the preceding terms. They are also periods of
spiritual re-awakening when the Father uses His Holy words to
cleanse us. In all areas where there are designated Pentecostal
Centres, brethren should take full part in Pentecostal
Assemblies and meetings.
There are three Pentecostal periods observed in Brotherhood
namely:

(1) APRIL(EASTER) PENTECOSTAL
(2) AUGUSTPENTECOSTAL
(3) DECEMBER PENTECOSTAL
These Pentecostals are always preceded by three days dry
fasting which helps to prepare us for the Pentecostal Assembly;

(1) The April Pentecostal serves to remind us of the death and
resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We remember and
honour him because He was crucified for our sins and
through the shedding of His precious, Blood and death.
He redeemed the whole world.
The three days dry fasting we do signify His three days
and three nights in the grave. We normally observe this
fasting one week before each Pentecostal Assembly
begins in order to prepare and sanctify our selves and
make our bodies pure and acceptable to God for His
service.

(2) AUGUSTPENTECOSTAL: It was on 8th August, 1958
that members of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star first
put on white apparel and march from 8 Eton Street to 26
Mbukpa Road. That marked the beginning of the
Pentecostal Assembly for Brotherhood and that was the
day Christ was revealed to the whole world. Before then
Brotherhood of the Cross and Star was neither publicly
heard or known.
(3) The December Pentecostal Assembly is kept in commemoration of the physical birth of God in human form,
in the person of His son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. It is
celebrated to remind all Christians that the Lord and
Saviour, who was the Word in the beginning actually became flesh on earth. His birth was to inaugurate the earth
into the deepest secred of heaven, His birth was the
expression of God’s love for mankind.

LEADER’S OFFICE:
The Leader’s office is more or less the control tower of the
whole system in Brotherhood of the Cross and Star. It is the
only official source; where authentic information are obtained.
Reports and requests from countries, States, and Areas, are
received and treated in the Leader’s Office. Remittance ofcollections from tithe box and Pentecostal Proceeds,
registration of new bethels, Healing homes, Spiritual hospitals,
are also done in the same office.

DEPARTMENTS OFTHE LEADER’S OFFICE:
1) Administration
2) The Treasury
3) The Printing Press

THE SACRAMENT OF BROTHERHOOD AND CROSS
AND STAR
This New Kingdom has eight Sacrament namely
1) Child Blessing
2) Baptism
3) Baptism of the Holy Spirit
4) Love Feast
5) Marriage Blessing
6) Confirmation of membership
7) Feast of Faith
8) Feast of Hope

(1.) CHILD BLESSING: Child blessing is mandatory for
any child born into Brotherhood of Cross and Star. The
child blessing can be done either during morning prayers
or evening prayers or even Sunday service but has to be
on the eighth day of the child’s birth and the parents are
expected to provide a fruit feast.

(2.) BAPTISM OF HOLY SPIRIT: Everybody seeking the
Kingdom of God, should be baptised into Brotherhood
whether he/she has been baptized before in any other
church organization. (This is stated in Ephesians 4:5).

“One Lord, one faith, one baptism”. People can be
baptized in all parts of the world. One needs not come to
Calabar to be baptized.
Philip baptized Ethiopian Eunuch while he was going
somewhere and he received the Holy Spirit and was saved.
Child Baptism: The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star has no
age limit for baptism. As adults need salvation, so do the little
children.

PROCEDURE FOR BAPTISM: The form of our baptism is
by emersion, we do follow the steps as laid down by our Lord
Jesus Christ as recorded in John 3:5.
Jesus answered, verily, verily I say unto thee, except a man be
born of water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom
of God”. Mark 16:16
“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that
believeth not shall be damned.”
Once baptized and anointed a person becomes a member in the
fold and become part of the one body and one spirit with other
members being membership in one Lord, one faith and one
baptism. Eph. 4:4-5
Our belief is so strong that as m any of us as were baptized into
Christ must put on Christ. Galatians 3:27
For there are THREE that bear record in heaven, the Father, the
Word and the Holy Ghost and these THREE are One.
“And there are THREE that bear witness on earth, the Spirit,
st the Water, and the Blood and these THREE are One. “1 John
5:7-8
“Go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the
name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.”
Matthew 28:19.

Note: Nobody should be coaxed or intimidated or threatened or
begged to accept baptism into Brotherhood. Before anyone is
baptize, he/she must believe in Our Lord Jesus Christ as the
Son of God. Son of man and God Himself. He must confess all
his sins, accept to denounce and resign his membership from all
secret societies and cults, do away with all charms talisman,
ring, and occult bodies and practices in order to benefit from
the baptism. It is necessary for people to know what they are
baptized into. The day anybody is baptized into Brotherhood is
the most important day in the person’s life and he/she should
not fail to celebrate a feast. It is a day of salvation, a day of joy
and a day of peace.

3). BAPTISM OF HOLYSPIRIT:
We are being purified through the Word of God. By hearing
HIM and putting same into practice, then we are made clean.
John 15:3
“Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto
you”
s1 1 Peter 1 :23
“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but incorruptible,
by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever”

4) LOVE FEAST:
This is taken generally and commonly by every member of the
fold irrespective rank at anytime. Love feast in Brotherhood is
very sacred and can accomplish almost everything. Love feast
can be celebrated with any amount because there is no price tag
on feast.
It is not something to be taken gluttonously. Thus a small slice
of bread, banana, paw-paw, pineapple, orange, a few grains of
groundnut and a small quantity of rice is enough for any
participant in a love feast.
Feast is of two types:

(a) FRUITFEAST
Fruit feast may consist of but not limited to the following items:
(n) Banana
(b) Paw-paw
(c) Ground nut/Pea nut
(d) Bread
(e) Garden eggs
(f) Coconut
(g) Apple
(h) Pears etc. etc.
(b) FULLFEAST:
Full feast may contain all the above mentioned Items in
addition to
the following:
(a) Rice
(b) Yam
(c) Plantain
(d) Garri/Ground rice etc. etc.
Love feast should be bought, prepared and eaten with the
utmost reverence and respect. Nobody should struggle or fight
for feast. When the feast is being served kneel down in humility
and partake of the feast. Take only one piece as the tray is
passed round.
st 1 Corinthians 11 : 20-34
“When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to
eat the Lords Supper For in eating every one taketh before
other his own supper:
and one is hungry and another is drunken. What! Have ye not
houses to eat and to drink in? shall I praise you in this? I praise
you not.
For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto
you. That the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was
betrayed, took bread:
And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said,
take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in
remembrance of me.
After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had
supped, saying.
This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye as often
as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup ye do
show the Lord’s death till he come. Wherefore whosoever
shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that
bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh
unworthy, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.
For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and
many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not
be judged.
But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord that
we should not be condemned with the world. Wherefore, my
brethren when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.
And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come
not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in
order when I come.”

5) FEASTOFHOPE:
To commemorate the Passover or last supper, during which
Our Lord and Saviour changed Bread to His living Body and
Wine to His priceless Blood. This feast is taken by those who
have love, hope and faith especially those who have
mortified the flesh as written in (Gal. 5:22 -24).
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering
gentleness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there
is no law. And they that are Christ have crucified the flesh
with the affections and lust.”

6) FEAST OF FAITH
This is taken only by those who have love and faith.

7) BLESSING OF MARRIAGE
Marriage is recommended to all brethren of the fold if they
so wish but on one condition that a man be husband to one
wife and that woman be wife to one husband. Solemnization
to marriage in Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is the
highest thing anybody can desire because it is done by the
Holy Spirit. The Father, therefore, advised that all brethren
have their marriages blessed. Even if you were married in the
court or church before your baptism into the fold, you are
still advised to have your marriage blessed. If you cannot
remain faithful to one man or one woman then celibate. Trial
marriages are not allowed in Brotherhood.

PREACHING ON THE PULPIT:
It is the Father’s instruction that sisters can mount the Pulpit
since they too are priests called according to God’s purpose
and will. There is neither man nor woman but the Holy
Spirit. By baptism in Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, a
sister (woman) has the right to conduct service. Hence, all
brethren, even children, can conduct but before mounting
the pulpit one has to obtain permission from the
C.N.T.M/Christ Witness in-charge of the stations (Bethels).
This holy book is a compilation of the Holy Father’s
teachings. It does not take the place of the Holy Bible since
one compliment the other. The Holy Father has authorised
the reading of the Holy Book (OROKUTUEYOEYO)
during service but that, the conductor should not add his
words or try to explain the Holy Father’s Sermon. The
conductor is at liberty to preach directly from the Bible or
read the Holy Father’s Sermon fully and without
interruption.

DISSOLUTION/ELECTION
All elected officers at all level in the fold has a term of one
year in office after which the executive is dissolve and new
officers elected at a general meeting for another period of
one year. The returning officer who must preside over all
elections in the fold must be a worker except where none is
present at such a meeting then any other person can preside.
Note: Chorister’s Fellowship as well as other fellowships

SPECIAL SILENT PRAYER (TO BE READ BY
CONDUCTOR):
Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of human race. Look down
upon us who humbly prostrate before thine Altar, we are
thine and thine we wish to be but to be more surely united
with Thee. Behold each one of us freely consecrates himself
to thy Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known
Thee. Many too, despising Thy precepts have rejected Thee.
Have mercy on them all most merciful Jesus and draw them
to Thy Sacred Heart.
Be Thou King, O Lord not only of the faithful who have
never forsaken Thee, but also of the prodigal children who
have abandoned Thee. Grant that they may quickly return to
their father’s house less they die of wretchedness and hunger.
Be thou King of all those who are deceived by erroneous
opinions or whom discord keeps aloof and call them back to
the larbour of truth and unity of faith so that soon they may
be one flock and one shepherd.
Be Thou King of all those who are still involved in darkness
of idolatry and Islamism. And refuse not to draw them back
to the light and Kingdom of God.
Turn thy eyes of mercy toward the children of that race, once
thy chosen people of old who incurred upon themselves the
blood of the savour. May it now descend upon them a lover
of redemption and of life. Sent O Lord to Thine Church
assurance of freedom, immunity from harm. And peace from
pole to pole with one cry: – Praise! To the Divine Heart that
wrought our salvation. To it be glory and honour forever and
ever more.

HOUSE BLESSING/HOUSE FEAST
Brethren are advised to have their new houses blessed before
they move in or as soon as they move in. The Holy Father
directs that house blessings be conducted with due
consideration to the neighbours in the building or
compound. The Spirit of prophets is subject to the prophets:
No one should say he is so moved by the spirit such that
he/she runs into the house of a neighbour against the
neighbours wish. Do not force your neighbour to accept
prayers. Do not sprinkle water in their rooms or holy oil or sit
on their door steps. If you are living upstairs do not stamp
your feet such that your neighbour on the ground floor is
disturbed. Do not go to the window of the neighbour to pray.
Brotherhood is not an organization of confusion. Everything
should be done in an orderly manner to the glory of the
Father and brethren must behave themselves properly.

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had
supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood:
this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do
show tho Lord’s death till he come.
Wherefore whosoever shall eat of this bread, and drink this

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that

THE CORRECTIONS MADE BY THE HOLY
FATHER
The Holy Father having observed that certain things are still
being done wrongly in this Kingdom made the following
corrections. The Father advised members to adhere strictly
to these corrections with humility because they come
directly from God. He observed that some brethren
whenever corrected are angry. You can not be perfect if you
are not corrected. 2nd Timothy 3:16-17, He further stated
that a humble man likes correction. Proverbs 3:11.
GUIDE TO UNIFORMITY:- HYMNARY:
1. The Hymn book of Brotherhood of the Cross and
Star was formerly called “Sure Foundation
Hymnary”, but now it has been corrected by the
Holy Father, and is to be called “Brotherhood
Hymnary”.
2. Do not say, “All Stand”, or “Kneel Down”, when you
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
conduct the Hymn, just hum and start the song.
Always use the phrase closing hymn instead of last
hymn of praise
3. Holy Oil/Water:“Sprinkling of Holy water on the
flower is meaningless”,says the Holy Father. The
Holy oil represents the Blood of Christ, and the holy
water represents the water that came out from the
side of Christ when He was pierced with a spear by
one of the soldiers: John 19:34 (But one of the
soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and at once
there came out blood and water). Their functions is,
when someone confesses his/her sins, and the Holy
water is sprinkled and is anointed with Holy oil, the
man’s sin is forgiven. James 5;14-15. The Holy
Father then asked, “What sin has the flower
committed”?
4. Sprinkling of Holy water in the Bethel is always
directed by the Holy Spirit. Anybody directed by the
Holy Spirit has right to sprinkle Holy water.
5. Notwithstanding the occasions feast must be
prepared purely on vegetarian bases.
6. In observing the sacraments of the kingdom brethren
must ensure strict adherence to the Holy Father’s
teachings to avoid adulteration of the kingdom sound
doctrine.
7. Never combine feast with drinks, fish or meat.
8. when a member sleeps in the Lord, it is more
preferable that he or she be buried immediately
without embalming or putting the corpse in the
50
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
51
mortuary.
9. There is nothing like OBUISM, we are Christians.
Brethren should be very careful in order not to
introduce strange doctrine into the kingdom
10. PRAYER: Offering of short prayer is now required
during any service. Apart from the Conductor in the
altar, who, on behalf of the Holy Father, may include
many things in the world in his/her prayer, which
could make the prayer long, even though it is not a
rule that unless he does so. That is to say, he too (the
conductor) can offer short prayer as well. But after
the conductor’s prayer, the rest members should be
brief and should be prayer of thanks, believing that
the one offered by the Holy Father is sufficient for us.
PATTERN OFPRAYER:
If you pray after the gospel, start off at once to thank the Holy
Father for that gospel. If after going on blessing, or after the
special song by the choristers, do it in the same way. If you
want to bless feast, bless it at once like this: ”Thank you
Father for the feast given to us, Father bless it, let it be good
with us in body and in spirit. Now and forever more Amen”.
There is time for everything. That is not the time to ask the
Father to go and bless the hospital, the prison, etc. Some
brethren when praying will even forget to include the feast
in their prayer. The stated pattern will help to make your
prayer short and beautiful. Matthew 6:7.
11. Always start your prayer with the word “LET”. No
other word should precede it. Words like, “Father Let’
is wrong. It is known that the word ‘LET, is powerful.
It is a creative word and command. God used it to
create the Universe, e.g. When He wanted light, He
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
52
commanded, “Let there be light”. Genesis 1:3. And
the light came to being. So it was with all other things.
Even the time He wanted to make man, He first of all
said, “Let us make man in our image”. Gen. 1:26. You
can now see that, let’ precedes before any other word.
12. When someone pray in a vernacular, e.g. in Efik
language, at the time of saying ‘EDISANA’, that is,
holy, it is wrong to answer back with tho same word,
‘EDISANA’ by the congregation. The correct way is
to answer in English, ‘Holy’. The same implies to
other vernaculars like, IBO, ‘NSO’, YORUBA,
‘MINO’, RIVERS, ‘FIAFIA’. It does not sound good
to hear the congregation answering – fia-fia, fia-fia,
fia-fia, fia-fia. Therefore to avoid disturbances and to
maintain UNIFORMITY, English ‘Holy’ response
should be used. Do not join the ‘holy’ like holy holy
holy. Let it go periodically like this, when you say
‘Holy’, pause for brethren to answer before you say it
again, ‘Holy’ and allow another pause for brethren to
answer before you go on your full prayer.
13. If a person is brought out for prayer, the prayer should
be offered one after another. Everybody should not
pray at the same time like the orthodox churches. One
to four persons can pray one after another.
14. Benediction should not be long. Very few words are
needed. Benediction must always end with let thanks
and praise be given to God in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ, in the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ
now and forever more Amen. Benediction should be
loud enough to the hearing of the congregation.
15. Conductors have right to recite the special prayer in
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
53
the Hand Book of B.C.S. during silent prayers, if
they like to do so. It was written by the Holy Father
Himself. It must be read aloud while all members
stand up till the reading is over.
16. SPIRITUAL WORK: On Sundays, during 10.00
a.m. Service, spiritual work should not disturb the
service. It is the Day of the Lord Rev. 1:10. Ablessed
Day. Only testimonies, thanksgiving and praises
must be used in remembrance of the good things God
has done for us throughout the week. Spiritual works
can be done during 5.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. services
on Sundays and other week days.
17. The Holy Father has once more reminded visioners
and all spiritual workers in this New Kingdom to stop
charging money in whatever services they render to
people. That, they should remember what happened
to the servant of Prophet Elisha. The Holy Father
referred to Matt. 7:21-23. That, what is written in
those verses are what will happen to those who
continue to charge money on whatever spiritual
services they render to people. On the other hand,
those who are blessed should not fail to provide good
things to visioners. That is not a sin. Try to
reciprocate the grace of God with carnal things.
18. In Brotherhood, we do not burn candle, or incense.
We do not make sacrifice of any kind, apart from
fasting and praying. Nobody is authorised to make
Holy oil. Do not bath people by 12 mid-night or any
other time, in the form of spiritual work- Do not go to
river side in the form of spiritual work, in order to
make a sacrifice. Do not throw the love feast on the
top of the roof or any where else in form of spiritual
work. Do not give vision concerning witchcraft, juju,
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
54
coffin, death in Brotherhood.
19. Spiritual works should not be done in secret or in a
private room. You have no right to ask someone to
naked herself before healing.
20. CONDUCTING: If you go on Ministry work to
another Bethel, and you intend to conduct service.
First of all get permission from the worker in charge
of the Bethel, before you enter the altar. It is not good
to go and lie or sit down in the altar, waiting for
worship time. Conducting of service should not be
by struggling, but by negotiation. Jingle the bell
immediately you enter the altar, kneel down and pray
silently. Jingle the second time, the angels descend
and the service starts. You can see now that to go and
sit down in the altar without doing anything is not
permitted. Some brethren do make mistake when
leaving the altar and waving of hand. It is wrong to
wait till the end of the first stanza of the song raised
by conductor before waving hand. Immediately you
raise a song, wave hand at the same time and move
out from the altar. Do not bow before waving.
21. Both brothers and sisters, even children can conduct
services from the big altar.
22. Order of conducing meeting. In starting the second
part of a meeting, ring the bell two times, then sing,
“Father lead us aright, O the loving Shepherd”. Then
prayer and the meeting starts.
23. Conductors should try to hold to the topic of the texts
quoted when preaching. We should not fix duration
for preaching. We believe that anybody in the altar is
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
55
being controlled by the Holy Spirit. Whatever he
does is between him and the Holy Spirit. Do not
impute sin on such a person so that you do not clash
with the Holy Spirit.
24. It is not proper to interrupt or challenge a conductor
while preaching. People should be very carefully so
as not to clash with the Holy Spirit.
25. TURBAN: Using of turbans for prayer was not
authorised by the Holy Father. He has never directed
that the turbans should be dipped in water for people
to drink, or to lay it on someone’s head to pray and
hitting people with it in form of spiritual work.
According to the Holy Father, the ordination with
turbans was only for the remembrance of the old
Prophets and the beauty of this Kingdom. The basis
of our faith should not be on any other thing apart
from the Holy name of our God. Matt. 12:21.
26. Visioners should not give vision contrary to the Holy
Father’s instructions or directives. For example, the
Holy Father says, ordained ones should no longer use
their turbans for healing. Take note of such. It is
wrong to give vision to an ordained one to use his or
her turban in the form of a spiritual work.
27. AMEN: Failure to answer Amen, when the name of
our Lord Jesus Christ is mentioned is a sin.
28. NEW SONG: It is good to fulfil all that have been
written about us in this New Kingdom. One of them
is, that we shall sing new songs. The Holy Father
recently corrected a Choir which came to sing from
the Church Hymnary. He stated it as general
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
56
correction to all Choir-masters/composers to always
compose songs in line with what was written about
us. Psalm 33:3. Psalm40:3, Psalm 96:1, Isaiah 42:10,
Rev. 5:9. Rev. 14:3, Rev. 21:2, Rev. 21:5, Isaiah
65:17-18.
29. The Holy Father has approved all the Efik songs in
the Hand Book of the B.C.S. to be translated into
English provided they maintain their original
meaning. This should be done by educated brethren
from Efik and Akwa lbom States.
30. Choirs should not copy the tone of the worldly
Churches. They should maintain the natural tone in
order to be different from Church choirs, since
Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is not a Church,
but the New Kingdom of God. The reason why the
Holy Father calls the Christ Students Choir, Biakpan
Choir, Nsofang and Ikom Choirs Natural Choirs was
because they maintained their natural voices and
tones
31. TITHE: Misusing of Tithe money is a fearful thing.
The misconception by some Bethels that the first
blessing collection is only for the tithe box, while the
second one is for the use of the Bethel, is wrong. The
correct thing is, the first collection, second to third
and fourth collections all go into the tithe box. All
Fellowships in Brotherhood should not fail to pay
their tithe. This is the way to pay it: At the close of any
meeting, the total amount realised should be divided
into ten parts. One part is the tithe and it should be
paid into the tithe box. An individual should also try
to pay tithe for his/her own good. Constant paying of
tithe attracts progress to Fellowships and individual.
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
57
32. The tithe money can be changed but care must be
taken to avoid shortage and missing of the tithe
money
33. Visioners should not ask people to pay tithe to
anyone because no man has right to receive tithe
apart from God. You can only ask people to give alms
to others.
34. BROTHERS/SISTERS: The Holy Father has since
1988 directed that members should not address/call
themselves by rank i.e. Prophet, Deaconess, Pastor
etc. at His presence. Members should call or address
themselves as, brothers and sisters which is the
greatest rank in this Kingdom. It is only that we are
not yet worthy to be called by it, because we are not
practising the brotherly love which is Brotherhood.
Brotherhood is oneness. A family of one father and
one mother. Unless we understand ourselves to that
extent then we shall stop fornicating with each other.
Why do you not have the urge of fornication with
your real sister? It is because you believe and know
that she is your sister from the same womb.
35. VIRGIN/SILENT FEAST: There is nothing like
‘virgin feast’, ‘silent feast’ in this Kingdom. There are
only three kinds of feasting in Brotherhood. They
are, Love Feast, Feast of Hope and The Feast of
Faith. Do not give name to any other one. Only the
Holy Father alone can introduce something in this
Kingdom.
36. BLESSING: Order of going on second blessing in
the Bethels should be done in uniform. Choristers are
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
58
the first to go, followed by children, men
congregation must follow the children behind
without leaving a gap. Women congregation, spirited
and ends up with the elders on the same line and the
same song. Then the ordained ones, Christ’s
Students, Christ’s Servants, Christ’s Witnesses,
Bishops and the 144,000 virgins who must go last
and whenever they are going on blessing, the whole
house or members must kneel down till they are done
before everybody stands up and dance with the
officiating priest.
37. When the first blessing song is raised, the section
concerned should stand up, bow and move. Do not
wait for the first stanza of the song to finish before
you bow.
38. BAPTISM: The Holy Father has permitted all the
children in B.C S. to be baptised, irrespective of age.
39. Members need not be baptised the second time. In
case of missing the Baptismal Certificate, or
forgetting the date and the name of the person who
baptised him, what they must do is to go to the person
in-charge of issuing the card for a new one. Anybody
in the office has right to bear the name of the person
who baptised him before. The Office incharge of
Baptismal Certificate Card has been informed about
this.
40. WEDNESDAYS: The order of service on
Wednesdays should be done according to the
directives in the Hand Book of B.C.S. The 7.00 p.m.
service on Wednesdays, the reading of John 17:1 –
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
59
end should be read in place of Psalm 15. Any service
conducted by 12 mid-night on Wednesdays is
automatically Watch and Pray. It must be conducted
in order of Watch and Pray in the comprehensive
Hand Book. It is wise to make feast during the Watch
and Pray service.
41. ADOPTION OF MINUTES: The adoption of
minutes of meetings should be done before prayer.
42. FEAST: Every Bethel ought to have a feast
Committee. The Feast Committee is to select those to
buy and cook the feast. The mother is to act as an
overall Supervisor, to make sure that things are done
properly. Whenever the mother is told about a feast,
she must in turn inform the Leader’s Representative
for proper announcement.
43. There is no rule as regards order of buying feast. The
buyers can put on white or any dress and can eat or
fast during the time of buying and cooking the feast.
However, during the preparation of feast, one must
be in spirit and love one another. They should not
sing carnal songs. They should not engage in carnal
conversations, discussion and should not quarrel.
44. There should be no answering of “It is” when feast
recitation is being read.
45. There is no fixed amount for celebrating feast but the
celebrant should know that it is very good to give
enough money.
46. Child blessing feast is not compulsory, but it is good
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
60
to celebrate it.
47. It is not good to cook the Bethel feast outside the
bethel when there is a place to cook it in the Bethel.
Unless there is no place in the Bethel, then it can be
cooked outside the bethel.
48. The procedure of serving feast in this Kingdom is
very simple, the feast should be shared equally, and
everybody must kneel down before taking the feast,
irrespective of anybody (rank). The sharers are not
supposed to kneel down before serving because they
represent the Holy Father.
49. Do not sprinkle holy oil or holy water on feast before
blessing it. Just bless it with few words as earlier
stated.
50. Ordained ones should not be served with special
plates. Everybody should take feast from the same
plates.
51. It is not only the ordained ones who must bless feast
as any member can do also.
52. The right person to give feast money to is the Bethel
Mother who will in turn inform the Worker in-charge
and Bethel Leader’s Representatives They will
therefore arrange for suitable date for the feast
53. COURT CASE: The Holy Father does not permit
his children to take others to court. But has permitted
them to go if someone takes them to court. 1 Corinth.
6:1-7.
54. MATTERS: If the State Executive cannot resolve
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
61
any issue between members, such matter should be
refer to the Brotherhood peace board for ameable
settlement . Matt. 18:15-17.
55. PROMISING NOTE: Members or those who made
pledge during fund raising can be reminded but not
by force. Some will pay while some might have

C.N.T.M, what they must do is to hold a general
meeting and agree that they do not want him any
more. After this, they write to the leader’s office at
the Headquarters for a change. Tangible reasons must

absent of the male L/R, the female L/R has right to
make announcement in the Bethel.
91. There are only five ways for healing in Brotherhood:
(I) Confession of sin
(ii) Prayer
(iii) Fasting
(iv) Ministry work
(v) Feasting
Tell the sick one to confess sins, first before you offer prayer
for him. If the problem is not over, tell him to fast and pray. If
it’s still not over, ask him to go on Ministry Work and to make
feast. The merciful Father will solve the problem for him.
James 5:16. Mark 9:29. (King James Version) If the problem
still continues, tell him to remain in faith and wait patiently
on the Lord, for His proper time. Tell him to remember the
righteous man, Job. James 5:11. James 1:12.

PSALM DURING WORSHIP/MEETINGS: PSALM
ONE:
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the
ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the
seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord:
and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be
like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth
his fruit in his season, his leaf also shall not wither; and
whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind
driveth away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement nor
sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous but the way of
the ungodly shall perish.
PSALM 15
DURING EVENING WORSHIPS ON MONDAYS,
TUESDAYS AND SATURDAYS
Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in
thy holy hill?
He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and
speaketh the truth in his heart.
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK
69
He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his
neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. In
whose eyes a vile person is contemned: but he honoureth
them that fear the Lord.
He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. He that
putteth not out his money to usury, not taketh reward against
the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be
moved.
FOR ALLWORSHIPS/MEETINGS
PSALM 23
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to
lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still
waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me: thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of my
enemies, thou anointed my head with oil; my cup runneth
over. Surely goodness and shall follow me all the day’s of my
life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
ON THURSDAYDURING EVENING WORSHIP
PSALM 51
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving
kindness; according unto the multitude of thy tender
mercies blot out my transgression wish me thoroughly from
mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I knowledge
my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against
thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight;
that thou mightiest be justified when thou speakest, and be
clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity;
and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest

truth in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know the
wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash
me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and
gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit
within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not
thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy
salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I
teach transgressors thy ways; and sinner shall be converted
unto thee. Deliver me from blood guiltiness, O God, thou
God of my salvation; and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy
righteousness.
O Lord open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth
thy praises. For thou desirest no sacrifice; else would I give
it; thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifice of God
are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou
wilt not despise. Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion;
build thou the walls of Jerusalem. Then shalt thou be pleased
with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering; then
shall they offer bullocks upon thine alter.
PSALM 121
DURING MORNING PRAYERS
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh
my help. My help cometh from the Lore which made heaven
and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that
keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper the
Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite
thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve
thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall
preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time
forth, and even forever more.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
FOR ALLWORSHIPS/MEETINGS
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy
kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive them that
trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, the power, and
the glory, forever and ever – Amen.
ON WEDNESDAYDURING EVENING WORSHIP
John 17: 1 -26
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven,
and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy son, that thy
son also may glorify. As thou has given him power over all
flesh, that he should give eternal life to all, as many as thou
has given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know
thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast
sent. I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the
work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify
thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with
thee before the world was. I have manifested thy name unto
the men which thou gavest them to me; and they that have
kept thy word.
Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast
given me are of thee. For I have given unto them the words
which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and
have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have
believed that thou didst send me.
I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which
thou hast given: for they are thine.
And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified
in them. And now I am no more in the world but there are in
the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through
BCS DIVINE HANDBOOK

thine own name those whom thou .1 given me, that they may
be one, as we are. While I was with them in the world, I kept
them in thy name; those that thou gavest me I have kept, and
none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the
Scripture might be fulfilled, and now come I to thee; and
these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy
and fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word: and
the world hath hated them, because, they are not of the world
even as I am not of the world.
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but
that Hum shouldest keep them from evil. They are not of the
world , even as I am not for the world. Santify them through
thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the
world, even so have I also sent them into the world, and for
their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be
sanctified through the truth.
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall
believe on me through their word; That they all may be one;
as thou, father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be
one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them: that
they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in
me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world
may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as
thou hast loved me.
Father, 1 will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be
with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which
thou hast given me: for thou lovest me before the foundation
of the world.
O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee; but I have
known thee and these have known that thou hast sent me.
And 1 have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it,
that the love wherewith thou hast love me may be in them,
and I in them.
